What color should i highlight my hair?????

i have very very dark hair its the darkest shade of black

and i was wondering what color of highlights should i get

and what color would look the best..

my hair is long.like around my back.

and should i also get layers???

I am a professional so if you want it to look natural you never go over 3 shades lighter or darker. If your hair is very black like solid black you have a blue base, then I would go with a Violet colour it would look so beautiful. If you have what we call white mans black which is more like a brown black you will have a red base. In that case you can go with reds, browns whatever. If you want punk well all colours will work. Layers will depend on your facial shape. If your hair is very thick layers may not work because layers will give you volume. But you could still have them if you have your hair thinned out after. If I saw a pic of you I could give you better advice, and if I knew what you are looking for. But I hope this helps. The one way to know if you have true black would be if you are like Indian or something like that. Their hair is a true blue black.

i think a deep brown with a hint of red looks great on dark hair, a nice auburn color with layers will look the best i think.

maybe a caramel brown would look quite cute, get highlights under your layers though so you see flashes of colour, that way you don't get horrid re-growth, and the colour looks a lot quirkier that way!

I think u should get a darker almost brown red, that's not 2 bright, but noticeable. Layers too. Layers take a lot of weight off ur hair if u have thick or long hair. It will look awesome when it's done. :)
