Can I highlight my hair during pregnancy?

I'm getting conficting results; some say you can't during your first trimester, others say you can whenever, maybe others say not at all. Where are people getting this information???

My husband and I are trying to conceive our first child, and normally I'd get my highlights updated next month, but I don't want to if I'm pregnant then and it will hurt our baby. My problem is that I'm the matron of honor in my sister's wedding in July, so I want my hair to look great then (with highlights), so should I do them now, before I get pregnant, or closer to the wedding, even if I am pregnant (if it's okay)???

My friend is a hairdresser and she will not highlight any womans hair if she is pregnant. The general advice is not to bleach, highlight or dye your hair during pregnancy.

If in doubt, don't do it. Personally, i'd wait til after the baby is born...but im a bloke, what would i know? :-)

i am a hairdresser and i've actually done one or two pregnant womens hair and i ask them before hand if its ok, they said yes, but now that i'm older and think about it, some women smoke during pregnancy too. i dont THINK it hurts, but i think the main problem, is actually walking into a salon with all the smells of hair color,bleach, hair products (spray products like hair spray people are constantley doing that around you) and nail products are the worst, if they do that in your salon. alot of people wont let pregnant women work in nail salons if their pregnant. i dont think getting highlights would hurt because its not touching your scalp, but i wouldnt chance going into such a chemical product smelled area. maybe, get someone to come to your house...but ask the dr. first. good luck with the hair and the baby :)

You should not do this until after the baby is born. if you must have highlights for the wedding,and that I can understand very well, you could get a temporary dye job, um Jazzing I thinkthey call it where instead of getting your hair died the regular way they just paint the highlights in and they will wash out again in 2 or 3 washings. I mght not have the name right but there is such a thing because I had purple streaks painted in for a party and they washed out in a couple of weeks

It is not advisable to highlight your hair, as you can absorb the chemicals through your skin %26amp; pass them to the foetus through your blood.

Try rinsing your hair with chamomile tea after all the shampoo has been washed out, and sit in the sun afterwards to lighten your hair gently.

This will not make you 'blonde', but will accentuate any fair hair you do have %26amp; give it a really nice glossy shine too. If you do this between now %26amp; July, and get out in the sun then your hair should be ok; alternatively, if you are more of a brunette, get your hair dyed its natural colour now %26amp; use a rosemary rinse, again to accentuate %26amp; improve your natural colour.

Beer (dark beer aka 'bitter'), not the pale stuff the americans drink)is also great for darker hair, bringing out wam tones %26amp; nourishing the scalp.

It wont hurt the baby. I have two healthy kids and I dyed my hair while pregnant. The only bad thing about it is that you have hormones and it might effect the color of the dye. My hair came out an orange color once. It wont effect the baby, it effects your hair color.

My older sister also dyed her hair while pregnant and she has the two smartest kids.

There are types of hair dyes that don't have such a strong smell to them. Herbal Essence is Mild and good to use when your pregnant.

i think it would be ok as long as the fumes from aren't too bad. if they are then open a window. that won't hurt the baby. (it depends which hairs you want highlighted) the ones on your head is fine
