I would do it. I know you really wanna put your boy friend's opinion, but what, is he your dad? Go for it and just say sorry but it is something I really wanted he will probably like it or be like sorry or not think of it as a big deal. If he does make a big deal out of it, she is not a real boyfriend because you always have to put your boyfriends opinion into consideration! Whenever I was getting my haircut or getting anything else like that done, I jsut did it and then surprised my bf later. You should just do what you want to do, don't ever tell him if you are thinking about doing something that's personal like that. Your hair is attached to YOUR head isn't it? So do what you want. It's ok to ask his opinion, but in the end go with what you want. It's hair and you can change it back if you don't like it after awhile.

Personally I think people with darker color hair look better with reddish hi-lites as opposed to blonde hi-lites. It just looks a little more natural. Besides reds do fade pretty fast so if you don't like it-it's not the committment that going say blondish would.
