Does highlighting your hair wreck it?

Im a 15 year old guy and i have black hair.

but i alwyas get brown highlights in my hair.

today one of my friends told me it will mess my hair up!

is that true, i go to a real barber and i get it done like profesionally none of that at home stuff.

so will this wreck my hair?

and also what abotu gel does that wreck it?

gel doesnt hurt your hair, at most it can cause product build up and your hair will look and feel greasy, so dont use too much at once.

as for getting highlights they can damage your hair i.e. dry it out and give you spilt ends, especially light shades of blonde. so when you get highlights make sure to condition your hair to make sure it stays soft. too many spilt ends can lead you to getting frequent hair cuts, so your hair may even end up short! just be careful.

highlights don't wreck t. it just requires more matenince. it might also make it dry. its compltely easy to fix. Use leave-in conditioner. Etc.

by matenince I mean like if your a girl..like blowdrying more etc. but ur a guy dont worry about it u have short hair!

It does if you do it like constantly like let's say that you do it evry single week that will definitley ruin your hair but if you only do it for touch-ups and stufff then it's ok but if it's your first time like evr getting your hair bleached/highlighted make sure you go to a salon.

i mean everything that your talking about generally will dry your hair out.. along with straightening.. curling ect. but so many people do it these days

just use a shampoo for color treated hair and that has alot of moisture in it

also. since you have black hair its going to be hard to get your hair to be a lighter color

if you do it too much or too frequently it will eventually damage your hair. look out for the signs. if your hair gets dry and brittle, you know you are processing it too much. you're lucky your a guy though, because if worse comes to worse you can just buzz it all off. girls.. not so much.. lol.

Honestly everything wrecks hair. the best thing to do is let it go, let it be natural, you shouldnt dye it or put anything in it, even tho it is made for hair. BUUT as long as there's no bleaching and the colour is not dramatically different then your natural hair, it won't get damaged beyong repair. And hair products not neccessarly wreck your hair, but they do damage it, even if you can't really see it. over time, you will and your hair wont be soft anymore. No one like to keep their natural hair anymore, but it's comming back in to style since it's so much healthier and prettier.... but we still have like 20 years to ge before people really give up on hair dye, since you have to keep dying it when it grows out.
