How do I highlight my own hair?

Ok, so I kind of wanna highlight my hair, except I wanna do a reverse highlight, almost. My hair is naturally a medium-darkish chestnutty brown. And I want to dye most of my hair a darkest brown, almost black color. And I want my natural hair color to stand out as highlights on my new hair color... does that make sense? So..... I need someone to explain to me how to do this. I am very novice at hying my own hair, I only did it once, and it was a very basic thing.

I want to know how I should go about performing this, and also can I use in foil or do I need some sort of special salon foil? Thanks.

please if you can go to a professional salon, you dont really kno what you are doing and i know you probably think its real easy but its not, if you have to do then just use normal foil and get somone to section out a rectangle shape on the top of your head then section out some pieces for you not to thick just enough to fit into the foil and, then wrap the foil around these pieces and then colour the rest of your hair

I'd print out a picture and show it to a salon or explain this to them yourself. But if you want to save some money and do a home dye, here...

Buy any dye that says "highlight". I use herbal essences' home dye. Pick a colour.you want...

There should be instructions of highlighting, and where the highlight would appear in the kit. They will give you a small kind of comb for you to put your mousse of dye on. I usually comb through one strand of hair, then, the next strand would be about 3 cm away.

And of course, do the after and before stuff by following the dye instructions.
